Public Speaking

This public speaking course is designed to help students develop effective communication skills and enhance their ability to deliver compelling presentations or speeches to an audience. Whether you’re a beginner or someone with some public speaking experience, this course aims to refine your skills, boost your confidence, and provide you with valuable techniques to engage and captivate your listeners.
Course Objectives:
- The student will demonstrate knowledge of basic public speaking techniques by participating in the practical portion of the class
- The student will develop the use of the correct terminology (jargon) in formal settings by applying the theory presented in class
- The student will demonstrate knowledge of speaking to inform, speaking to persuade, and speaking to entertain by giving speeches in each of these areas.
- The student will develop evaluation skills through active participation in evaluating fellow students
- The student will develop confidence (overcoming the fear of public speaking through participation and experience)
- The student will know when /how to use his “impromptu speaking skills” in regards to relationship to the speaker (e.g., a friend, employer, official); the situation in which the communication is taking place (e.g., the phone, mail, face-to-face); the topic of communication (e.g., telling a joke, discussion of math problems, or relaying bad news).
